TOMTE or GNOME? from Kwilty Pleasures

A Tomte and Gnome are really one in the same.
The pattern I am talking about today is a Scandanavian TOMTE design.

I looked up TOMTE (pronounced tom-ta) and by definition
a Nordic mythological creature associated with winter solstice and Christmas season.
GNOME is also a mythological creature who is
an ageless and often deformed dwarf who is a good luck charm.

This is my finished TOMTE quilt.
I think of the little guy as my
OSU Gnome named BUCKY

As I was finishing this quilt....I also had a Modern Tree Quilt to bind.
I used the free tutorial ...

WONDER WHY it took me so long! from Kwilty Pleasures

To finish and post about this quilt that began in  2021.
This was a "sewcial distance" challenge
between Kim Hensley and me.

I sewed it at the beach but it sat for awhile.
Kim was learning to use her new
INNOVA longarm and needed some practice quilts.

I was the girl for her! I have quilts just waiting!
Her new business is Happily Every Quilting.
She's still a full time VIP for Nationwide but
when she retires in a few years, this will be her
FUN full time job!
She is a super Disney Fan, has a family season ...

If its not finished soon...I will use my Bernina 440.
I like the dual feed on the 740, sew I should just wait!
It's been a spa month but I was told 6 weeks, sew....

A ‘PERKY’ TABLE RUNNER from Kwilty Pleasures

Sometimes being a pattern tester has ‘perks’
besides getting great patterns.
For instance, fabric!
Corinne Wells of Frannie B Quilt Company
Designed a new line called ‘Elegance’.

She reached out to her testers and asked if we could turn around
a quick project using her new fabric line.

I committed  to make a table runner and really
loved the mustard colors in this line.
Corrine sent me these fat quarters.

I looked thru my patterns, quilt books, Pinterest for inspiration.
Found this pattern by Nancy Zieman.
The heartbeat idea didn’t do anything for me..
but I could figure a ...

Tomte Xmas from Kwilty Pleasures

Stitching things off my UFO list!
This little gnome quilt TOMTE is sew adorable.
How could I resist.

I cut it out in fall of 2021 and intended to make
at a quilt retreat. But that didn't happen.

Back home last winter...the stitching began.
It went together sew quickly!

And begin a BUCKEYE FOR LIFE
you know my Gnome had to have a OSU hat!

He's now at the longarmer and he will return
before the the first kickoff!

GO BUCKS!

MY SANTA IS JINGLING AND JANGLING from Kwilty Pleasures

I am always behind the TRENDS in the quilting world.
I never hop straight on the band wagon.
I like things to simmer.
I like to figure out, if indeed, I want to make the make!

This SWELL Vintage Santa was one of those projects!
He took me right back to my childhood!

I saw a friend make this Jingle Jangle Pattern
and fell hard...like off the roof hard...for it!

But I didn't have any of the SWELL fabrics.
Cause I don't jump on the bandwagon!

Well before I know it...She sent me some fabric ...

STARGAZERS IN THE GARDEN from Kwilty Pleasures

I have decided my favorite part of making a quilt is....
finding the perfect place to take photos....in the wild.

Come with me into The Franklin Park Conservatory.
It's a gem in the heart of Columbus OH.

The gardens are full of beauty and perfect backdrops.

This summer the grounds host a Topiary Takover!
UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites, inspired the animal topiaries.
All designs, constructed and grown by the FCP Staff!

My quilt caught the attention of this buffalo...stopped him in his tracks.

And a Bengal Tiger lay in wait...he had heard the news
of a ...

STARGAZING WITH ZEN CHIC from Kwilty Pleasures

Sitting here with COVID...
I tried to do all the right things, shots, booster,
social distance, mask, hand sanitizer, no family gatherings,
hunkering down til my legs hurt...

BUT

I became complacent about wearing my mask outside of my home.
I became to comfortable in large crowds
with ushering in theatres and at outdoor venues,
with NO MASKS on my face!
COVID GOT ME

But tonight I share with you something beautiful....
The Stargazer Quilt Pattern by Corinne Wells of Frannie B Quilt Company.
I was a pattern tester and this top was finished in fall of 2021

My Longarm ...

A WALK IN THE WOODS from Kwilty Pleasures

I had a fun time sewing at this beach in April.
My Instagram friend, Cory, who lives in Alabama,
and I decided to do a sewcial distance project apart/together.
We opened it to others as a sewalong...and a few
people began it and some finished it.

I have had the 'free'  TYPE IT pattern by Zen Chic on my radar
for awhile and its a jelly roll quilt.
I didn't want anything that would take too much time...
cause THE BEACH!

I found a Jelly roll by Aneela Hoey in my stash.
"A Walk in The Woods ...

STARGAZER TESTER! from Kwilty Pleasures

I feel very lucky to be a pattern tester for
Frannie B Quilt Company.
Corrine Wells comes up with some great designs.
The mission is taking designs of fabric and blocks
from traditional colors and style into modern beauties.

Stargazer had me working my testing skills to the limit!

I always make test blocks as part of my testing process.
These Charley Harper stars will become units in another project.

I soon found out there were LOTS of flying geese.
That's not sew bad, but the instructions made them
one at a time....brutal.
Of course, that was the ...

FIRST 2022 FINISH 4-PATCH SLICE from Kwilty Pleasures

One of the sewcial distance quilts Kim Hensley and I sewed in 2021
was making a fun 4-Patch Slice quilt.
I  finished it as my first 2022 project!
Sometimes we begin, get the top done and then it’s timing
to get the quilts quilted and bound.

I used Wonder fabric line by Kate and Birdie
and it was perfect for a baby quilt.
The pattern I selected was by Inspiring Creations.
I like the different layouts she offered
and the wider insert strips.

Kim used some of her Bonnie & Camile fabrics.

I loved the way my baby quilt turned ...

Project Bag and Lots of Snow from Thread Head

This week I made a project bag for cross stitch (I see on Floss Tube that this is the kind of bag that cross stitchers use) -

I used scraps of handwoven fabric, leftover from a tunic I made a few years ago.
The back is quilted with a layer of soft and stable batting (the front has some stiff interfacing).
I attached a pottery button from a local artist (there is a fake crack in the button that is stitched over).
The fabric has a handspun warp and commercial yarn weft (black here).
The back and the front of the ...

Finished Sweater from Thread Head

I finished knitting a sweater this week -

I wanted to knit a sweater with commercial yarn for a change. It is knit with a fingering weight yarn and a lace weight silk and mohair yarn, held together (Bare Capretta and grey Aloft Super Kid Mohair both from Knit Picks). The pattern started out as The Classic by Espace Tricot. I decreased stitches before knitting the ribbing for the sleeves and made the sweater longer (I wanted to use up my yarn).
The sweater came out really nice - it is soft and warm.
Now I am working on a hat (Musselburg ...
